believe it or not, i actually got it at joanns. $6.99 a yard. it was more yellowish but a dyed it with one bottle of brown rit dye then ta daaaaa. I lucked out.

I think that when Terry was making the MR prototype, he had to paint the scarf by hand. You can probably do the same. I'd use Acrylic paints on a non-stretchy fabric. If you're really lucky, you might find something that won't fray a lot, so the edges will be easier to work with. You probably won't need more than 6 inches of whatever material you end up using (assuming the bolt width is long enough). Great job so far!
