Can anyone suggest a fur that would be good for making fraggles? I haven't really done any work with fur yet so I'm a little overwhelmed with all of the different kinds.

Boil 2-3" fur. Be certain to do a test piece. The boiling of fur will provide you the look you need.

Sometimes they carry what is called "stringy" fur, it comes in different colors, but is not always available. It already has the kind of matted look to it, but is slightly longer than the standard fur...

great tips thanks! If I have to dye the fur should I do it before or after the boiling?
