I've been using piano wire which we got at the puppetry workshop in sydney but I think it can be bought quite easily.

Oh, the off-color play-on-words comment that I want to make....

I shall refrain...but...it...hurts....cause it's funny....

EDIT:
Couldn't hold it in...sorry...

"I've heard the same said of our CIA..."

It's funny when you get it.

Thanks for the Rick Lyon link. It looks like the arms in the picture both twist outwards in sync. I think Tutter from Bear in big Blue house moves this way sometimes.
Actually, they are able to move independently. There are two rods. I wish I'd paid more attention to the method, sorry!

Were they able to bend at the elbow too? ...As well as the outward motion.

The British TV programme Softies, made by Hands Up Puppets, used internal arm rods quite a lot. A friend rigged for them, so I'll try and get the details of the mechs.

No...that's true. They didn't move at the elbow; the bend was perminent as I recall. But each arm could go in or out independent of the other arm. And they could "shrug" by moving the rods up and down (which was really cute).

Hi Sam, nice to meet another Australian here! Have you worked on any well known shows here in Australia?

Thanks also for the tips, that helped alot as I'll have to be getting some more rods soon.
