Inspiration for Animal?

Hi everyone, this is my first post!
My question is: who was Animal modelled after? I've read that Keith Moon, drummer for The Who, was the inspiration for Animal. I know that Ronnie Verrell was the drummer behind Animal's music, but who was Animal based on? Keith Moon?

    Thanks.

I thought for sure this would be the place to get the answer.
    Oh well, guess not.

Hi Tommygunn, welcome to the forum!

I think everyone around here is a little distracted by the excitement stirred up by another thread here so please don't think anyone is ignoring your question.

Granted, I'm not necessarily the most knowledgable source of knowledge regarding the Muppets but honestly, I have never really read of any direct inspiration for Animal. As far as I know he was just created from the fertile imagination of Frank Oz's mind. I would bet though that he was meant to be an exaggeration of the rock n' roll excess that typified the 70's.

I hope that helps in some way. I hope to see you around the forum.
