Yes, I read on line that 'Boombah' is supposed to be a cuddly lion.

The other Muppets are named Chamki, Googly, Aanchoo.

I've read two interviews for the India Sesame Street where they quote Marty Robinson.
Perhaps he was over there supervising the casting.
