Hi all!

This is something I cam across elsewhere on the web, it's from Mathieu Rene a puppet builder in Quebec (check out his site at http://www.magma.ca/~uubald/). I haven't actually tried this technique, but it sounds interesting....

I Have been experiemtning with different materials to create specific types
of hair on my current puppet contract. Many have to be done, so I try a lot!

And Lo and Behold, I have found ways of producing a wide variety of hair,
using the same method!
Having never heard of this method before, I take a chance at boring some
and helping others who might have not tried it yet.

If any of you know of this method, and know the common name of it, please
tell us here!

Simply put, (because there IS no complicated way of telling it):
you separate and/or unwind the strands of a rope or a thread! And
depending on the material(nylon, cotton, hemp, wool, etc...), the number of
individual cord, and other factors, you get different results.

Results so far:

- nylon all purpose cord
separated all strands (no just unwinding) until a wispy "Angel Hair"
texture was achieved!

-butchers' yarn: (assuming it's a natural fiber) = thick wavy hair!

I also dye the hair by rubbing some very diluted acrylic paint in it. Too
pure a paint will make the hair stiffer...
