The opening of the TV show was sung by kids at that point. XD

Then why did the LP/CD version creep you out and the TV version not?

That's kids for you. They're projecting their voices so they sound loud. Brashness is all subjective in regards to the listener though, IMO.
It was the person directing the children who made then sing that way. On the song they used on the show the voices were a lot nicer, softer and sweet sounding and a lot more soothing too. :halo:

I have some news to report on this. Sesamestreet.org recently uploaded a video of the Sesame Street cast singing the theme song. By matching this version to the episode guide on Muppet Wiki, I can say that this version occurred at the beginning of episode 3952 in 2001 (apparently following the standard opening without a break). And guess what Telly's lines are as he bounces up and down on his pogo stick?
