Apparently, Miss Piggy was given an award at the Special Olympics today in Santa Monica, CA. I just caught it on the evening news.

The family event will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Pacific Park on the historic Santa Monica Pier. First Lady, Maria Shriver and Co-Chairman, Disney Media Networks and President, Disney-ABC Television Group, Anne Sweeney are the 2005 Honorary Chairs for Pier Del Sol, which will feature Miss Piggy live on stage, a VIP brunch, awards ceremony, silent auction, music and continuous entertainment.

Bill Shumard, President and CEO for Special Olympics will present the award to Anne Sweeney on behalf of Miss Piggy at the special awards ceremony to be held at noon. This once small town porcine is being recognized as a role model for her courage and perseverance in everything she does on and off the stage. "Miss Piggy's great energy and ability to inspire greatness, provides a great foundation for our athletes to be the best that they can be and we are proud to honor her as an outstanding member of our community," stated Rafer Johnson, President of the Board of Governors of SOSC.

Everyone is invited to the pier for a fun-filled day of quality time with friends and family. Feast on mouthwatering specialties from over 35 of LA's best restaurants, challenge your skills and mingle with celebrities at the game booths, and enjoy a thrill on the pier's carnival rides. Since its inception in 1997, Pier Del Sol has raised nearly 3 million dollars to benefit the athletes of Special Olympics Southern California, an organization that strives to make a positive impact upon the lives of individuals with intellectual disabilities. Over 10,000 children and adults with intellectual disabilities participate in the organization's year-round program of sports, training and competition.
