Good list, now we need Bean.

Personally i'm not stoked about Benjamina though they do need these Piggy and Kermit variants around so the line stays recognisable so i can see the need.

I think they should be careful about doing too much from 'Muppets Tonight' - it wasn't the greatest success and i can't see people in the general public falling over themselves for Clifford and to a lesser extent Johnny & Sal. I think this is yet another case of Palisades paying a little too much attention to the Muppet hardcore fans and not thinking enought about what a regular fan would want - i think they are two different things. I'm for MT characters but spread VERY rarely - Henson haven't really used Clifford much since the show was axed and it seems Kermit will be hosting the Fox show so Clifford may even be a retired character (or almost there) already. I can't see Johnny and Sal being around much in the future either seeing as Brian Henson isn't involved in the new show so they'll be out too. A much better idea would be for Palisades to try and get some info on what the NEW characters will be like and have those come at while the Fox show is airing. I think even film variations of existing figures would do better than MT characters though.

Pepe is a great idea obviously and is more of a classic Muppet nowdays, Statler & Waldorf in the same series are a must, and of course Rizzo should be on his own too.

I can kind of understand the varients, but I would rather have a new character than another remake of a character we already have. hopefully Bejamina Gunn and patrol bear fozzie will be held off on and we'll get some more original characters, or at least characters in more "classic" styles.

still, if the figures came out exactly as listed above, i'd stil buy em all :p Even figures that I didn't think I'd want originally palisades has done neough cool stuff with that I had to buy them anyway, and somehow I don't see that changing...

It looks like a pretty solid (if tentative) lineup to me; but like Luke, I'm reaaaaally wary of the Muppets Tonight characters. That said, I think the four included so far (Pepe, Clifford, Jonny and Sal) are the best characters and the ones most likely to be purchased by fans. And I don't know that Lips or Thog would sell any better than them. But I think that additional versions of Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Gonzo, Animal would. I never thought I'd be advocating releases of the same characters again, but it's not exactly "Tatooine Luke" either...I think a Nekkid Rowlf (or Sam) would probably move more product by Series 7 than either Johnny or Sal.

Anyway, that's my .02. Of course, I'm a horrible person to go by, because I'll be buying all of them.

I can almost stake my life on the fact that Patrol Bear Fozzie is a shoo in very soon. Remember that we've already seen a prototype of him (it was very small, but he was in the picture). So that means that he's been sculpted and tooled (I'm sure), so that means they've already spent too much money on him to scrap him alltogether.

That being said, putting him in the line will cut costs for them, and make the line more profitible for Palisades, which will mean more likelyhood that we'll see another wave of figures.

    muppets tonight

the muppets tonight figures would seem to make more sense if there were even dvd's available, or reruns, or anything, keeping the show alive. i'm a huge muppet fan, but even i've only seen that show twice!

however, pepe is bigger than muppets tonight, and his feature in mfs and other promotions show him to be worthy of a figure. buyable even. if johnny and sal are featured in the christmas movie, and are being used more in the immediate future, i guess it makes sense to do them (even if they're more sesame street-esque than muppet show-ish) as for clifford, he's cool, and as with pepe it's great that racial, social, and ethnic considerations are incorporated into his character. but he's really very "90's" in style and design. i'm not sure he's going to have the longevity as a character that warrants getting a figure.

i guess if muppets tonight episodes were really available, all this would change. i did like the episodes i saw, but i'm more into collecting classic muppet show or early muppet movies figures myself.

Here's the deal.... Ken has posted the changes on the Palisades Board.

Firstly, BOP Fozzie is dropped (crud) and so is the Mayheim Bus (double crud). Janice WILL still be in series five (which is why Foz was dropped).

The MCC PVC set has been pushed up (due to the fact that series 7 may be released in 2004) to series 6. Koosbain Kermit is back to series 5, again!

I cannot remember any more, but here's the link:

The toyfare line plan suggests, Clifford, Johnny and Sal will be released in the second half of next year. Hey, the new Muppet Show will be out by then. This will help give it a push, so there will be a current project out when these are released.

Standard Rowlf and others really need to be scattered throughout the line. If it were up to some of us, we would have used up all the major characters in the first year and had only lesser-known guys left for the subsequent waves. Ken's formula has always been 2 Big Guns and 2 Supporting Players. Why would this wave be different? I have been concerned about Johnny's inclusion so soon, but don't you think Bill Barretta will keep performing Johnny? It seems like one of his faves. :)

Johnny and Sal may be pushed to a 2004 release, according to the latest line up!

I'd like to see him keep performing Johnny but i don't think it'd be as good without Sal. I guess that all depends on Brian - either they just do Johnny & Sal on projects he's invovled with, or they get somebody else to do the character and Brian goes into 'Frank Oz' mode - i just wouldn't expect him to puppeteer on projects he isn't producing. I think it would be both a pride and ethical issue for another producer to walk on a 'Team Todd' set and take a more minor role. Personally i would buy Johnny & Sal action figures (would probably work better as a two pack) but unless they have some more exposure i couldn't see the public doing so right now - so yeah, hopefully they'll be featured a lot at Christmas.

As for Clifford, he had a few lines in 'Muppets From Space' and is apparently featured very little in the Christmas movie. I don't know if he'll be in the Fox show but i wouldn't expect it to be a big role. I have a feeling he's a bit of a one trick pony and only really had a place hosting 'MT' when they didn't want to use Kermit. Featuring him in a wave AND doing a case repaint of him seems too much - i just don't think he'll sell well for them aside from the completists, though the funky look of the character might gain some impulse buys.

Some accessory questions for the announced (and pushed back) figs:

BOP Fozzie- well, you've already made him, so he's gotta come out sometime. My question is, what would he come with? My vote goes for the blue octopus from the best-remembered edition of BOP.

Marvin Suggs- how many Muppaphones? Will there be a table too? Would they be attached to it so they won't be lost, or perhaps magnetized?

Newsman- assuming that this is still on, how are you going about doing a backdrop for him?

Beauregard- which clothing scheme? The grey janitor's coat or the blue plaid w/suspenders?

Definitely going to get the Chef repaint and Vaudeville S & W. Great to hear they're on the way!

He'll come with a bunch of Cop Gear.

Honestly haven't thought that far ahead. Probably a table and probably permanently attached.

Newsman- assuming that this is still on, how are you going about doing a backdrop for him?

He comes with a desk and backdrop. It was actually easier to work out than I thought. It is smaller, but I think it works.

Beauregard- which clothing scheme? The grey janitor's coat or the blue plaid w/suspenders?

Grey jacket. Not the plaid. Sculpt is freakin AWESOME by the way. One of my favorites to date. I think we are finally getting the Muppet style hair nailed. Time to redo some heads!

I'm not so concerned about WHO is in the line-- I know Ken & the rest of the crew will do a great job-- I'm just concerned about how to afford all these, and how to get them as quick as humanly possible!!! :D

I love all the Mega's- I hope they all happen & happen soon.

The arrangements of the PVC's could use a little work though. A common theme would make sense for each set (see the PVC wish list thread).

Staking your life on an action figure sounds risky to me, but they can hold off on him and have him come out a little later...Reg Rowlf was already made, and we don't see him in this line up. plus diffrent sculpts of figs and stuff, just because they made it does mean it will come out at all too, i mean i really hope BOP does come out, but it would be so much better with a BOP playset, and Patrol pig Link as well, so it should be held off for them both to come out in the same series.

and the bus and BOP wasn't Droped, just put on the back burner...but don't keep it there too long because they will melt;-)

Hi Luke, where did you hear about this, i thought i read that he's not in the new christmas movie at all.

yes your right about the MT characters, i thought we would be seeing more movie charcters now in the action fig line, i am not talking about the PCV's.

Pepe has broke away from MT completly,so he should be made. I would think that maybe either Reg Rowlf or Sam should be in there. one or the other, i don't think you should hold on to them too too long i mean this line is not riding on just sam and Rowlf alone.
I think your right about a clifford repaint, how about doing a gonzo in a black tux insead? i mean we will already have the purple tux gonzo, it could be the same fig but maybe new items or camilla in some type of dress...if you can dress a chicken...and i don't mean after cooking it! plus it would match with kermit,Rowlf, busnen and beakers tux's, then leading to fozzie, sam, scooter and so on.

I think Bean would be a great seller! he got his break in MCC, even thought it was a small role he got many fans out of it, even if they don't know his name. I think henson should use him a little more, not too much as he might be the elmo to the kermit, piggy, fozzie, gonzo muppets, but give him a few line's, he was going to be a bigger character shown in Muppet vision 3D before Jim Henson pasing, i think Ma(Emily) bear and beau were working up that way too at the time.but about Bean, i wish he was used a tad more, i know that Brian said the Henson company loves to hate bean bunny, but Bean is getting the same treatment in the new christmas movie that he got in MFS, maybe they could do more then just one squishing to bean with a few lines as well.

The Clifford repaint appears to be a chase repaint packed in with the regular series six assortment. It isn't an exclusive. So, the figure in question has to be in the series. A Beauregard plaid repaint is more attractive to me, but Clifford is cool too. They couldn't make either Statler or Waldorf repaints here because you really can't have one without the other and their show exclusives will debut in series five.

I agree that a Tux Gonzo repaint would be attractive, but he is scheduled in series five with Janice. That would cancel-out her chase repaint. I'm sure we'll se a black tux Gonzo somewhere down the line because it would be lucrative for Palisades to get more mileage out of the sculpt and there is definitely a market for him. It really seems more like a club/show exclusive to me though. Like your ideas on Camilla. I'd also like to see a hat on Gonzo!

They have to save some surprises and choice figures for the rest of the waves. We should all keep in mind that moving the line up assortments around is easier said than done. It takes a lot of time to sculpt these figures and they can't just shift things around so easily especially when they have invested mega bucks into each sculpt. That's why I know it must be killing them to sit on the Patrol Bear sculpt for so long.

    Hi Jamie!

Your rightJamie, sometimes i think of repaint's as the same as exclusive, when there are not, it really wouldn't mater if there was a repaint or not its just the same fig and not an extra one in the line or in the shippment like with floyd, if there are only three fozzie, gonzo's and harrys in a box then there are only three floyds one in which is the repaint, I'm thinking now;-)

yeah i wasnt really meaning a black tux gonzo for series 5, as of now we can get a janice repaint because she is not coming with the bust, i was thinking of an ex black tux gonzo but in a repaint kinda way...which doesn't really work...or may anysence.... i'd go with a club/show ex for that to now.

I'm hoping that the tux figs will start to come with hat's like kermit but with a magnet, i know Rowlf, busnen and beaker will not, but if fozzie comes out with chucky he's gotta have one as well as gonzo, because the purple tux is not going to, not that it should.

I still hope Bear on patrol come's with a playset though.
