I HAVE AN OLD SET OF MINI MUPPET SOUND DRUMS. I GOT THEM TO RESTORE AND GIVE TO A FRIEND THAT LOVES THE MUPPETS. THE DRUM CYLINDERS BASS, SNARE, AND TOM HAVE PITTED RUST ON THEM. THE RINGS THAT HOLD THE "SKINS" ON ARE RUSTED, THE SYMBOLS ARE AS WELL. I PLAN TO CLEAN ALL THE RUST OFF AND ELECTROPLATE THE RINGS AND SYMBOLS, AND POSSIBLY THE DRUM CYLINDERS AS WELL THEN MAYBE REPAINT THE RED AND BLUE STRIPES ON THE DRUM CYLINDERS. WILL THIS SCEW UP THE VALUE, IF ANY ON THE OLD DRUM SET?

ANY HELP, OR ANY THOUGHTS???

THANK YOU,

There are always 2 sides to this argument.Basically, you have to consider all the pros and cons.Generally, things are worth more in their original condition. But as you are giving this as a gift, I think it would be nicer in a better condition.you also have to take into account how bad the deterioration is.If it isnt going to last much longer, then it is better to step in and preserve it.Even Museums do restoration work and replace and paint over original pieces.
