store bought puppets

any puppet's i buy at a store and alter the apperance a little bit, could i use them in my puppet shows like on tv?

I'm pretty sure that is not kosher. I recommend reading the forum here to find out how to build your own. Then you don't have to worry about t.v. rights because you built it. If you are not interested in building puppets there are many people here who are willing to make you some puppets that you can use on T.V. if you bought the rights from them first.

As a general rule, most companies don't mind you using their puppets in a live show, but TV can be tricky. Some companies like Axtell Expressions and Folkmanis (reportedly) will allow their puppets to be used on TV or video if they are credited as owning the copyright to the character. The best thing to do is contact the puppet maker and ask permission.
