Hi! I watched SS episode #3842 where Rosita and Telly do the scavenger hunt while Maria's working on the toasters. They had to look for a saxaphone, the number seven and Rubber Duckie, and guess what this episode had! The Alligator King!! I heard it on audio only on many Fridays before I go out. The Alligator King was the classic animated segment/song that went like this:

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven!

Said the Alligator King to his seven sons,
"I'm feelin' mighty down
Whichever of you can cheer me up
Will get to wear my crown."

The first son brought seven oyster pearls
From the bottom of the China Sea
The second son gave him seven statues of girls
With clocks where their stomachs should be

The third son gave him seven rubies
From the Shing of the Downunderbeneath
The king thought the rubies were cherries
And he broke down seven of his teeth

The fourth son tried to cheer him up
With seven lemon drops
The king said,
"I'm sorry son. Since for that ruby episode, I just haven't got the chops!"

The fifth son brought the king perfume
In seven fancy silver jars
The king took a wiff and he broke out in his spots
'Cause it smelled like cheep cigars

The sixth son gave him seven diamond rings
To wear upon his toes
The king snagged his foot on the royal red rug
And bumbled up his nose

The seventh son of the Alligator King
Was the thoughtful little welp
He said,
"Daddy, appears to me that you could use a little help."

Said the Alligator King to his seventh son,
"My son, you win a crown.
You didn't bring me diamonds or rubies
But, you helped me up when I was down.
Take the crown, it's yours my son
I hope you don't mind the dents.
I've got it on sale at the discount store
Costs me all of seven cents!"
7!

That's always been one of my favorite clips and songs since I was a little kid. I was so happy to see it again, even on Number of the Day of the current season.

Did someone say it's on the 25th Anniversary DVD? I just bought it and I'm waiting for it to arrive in the mail!

You ought to check out Jerry Nelson's version of the song on The Count Counts LP. Although it's not quite the same as the original broadcast version, Jerry's is still pretty fun. In fact, that entire album has some pretty nifty reinterpretations of many of the songs from the animated shorts of the 70's by the Muppet performers.

I agree, the Count's Countdown is a great album. Expect to hear it all later this year on Muppet Central Radio.

I love the Alligator King! I can especially remember the part with the rings and the lemon drops. We used to have a set of Sesame Street books and I'm not really sure what they were, I can remember that we got them at the grocery store and then my mom donated them to my elementary school :frown: but I think that the Alligator King segment was featured in one of them...I could be wrong but I think it was.
