As much as it's over played, I dig Foster the People. Reminds me of a lot of the more underground jangly hipster indie rock stuff Im obsessed with.

Not underground at all, but a song I love

I like "Houdini" and "Helena Beat" the best off Foster the People's Torches album.

For similar bands, check out MGMT's "Oracular Spectacular" album, Empire of the Sun "Walking On a Dream" album or Two Door Cinema Club's new album.

Thank you for the tips, beaker! While mainstream radio annoys me, modern indie bands often lack the oomph I'm looking for. That's why I stopped looking into the names I hear. But I will check out your suggestions, and I may be happily surprised!

"Blue Jeans" - Lana Del Ray

In a way, I'm happy she bombed on SNL or else I wouldn't have even heard of her. And she's actually rully good, despite the not-so-great SNL performance.

Justin Towne Earle's "Christchurch Woman" has been in my head for weeks. I like the stripped down acoustic version best, but the album version is killer, too.

I have a distressing fondness for songs that involve electric piano/organ/other tacky 70s keyboards. Since this song is pretty much all keyboards, I love it.

Plus it has a very nice lyrical sentiment.
