I still have an old Big Bird toque (Canadian word!) that I have had since I was a baby back in the 1970's. You can see a picture of it here: http://i226.photobucket.com/albums/dd257/jmacole/BigBirdtoque.jpg
Inside there is a small white tag with the Sesame Street logo on one side, and "Muppet Characters, (C) Muppets, Inc." on the other. My older brother has a similar Oscar the Grouch toque that would have been purchaced at the same time. I don't know where it was made or which company made them, but it's still a nice old collectible that I'm glad to own.
I'm wondering if anyone else has seen these before and if any other characters were made?
