On December 14th, a parody of films like Ray, Beyond the Sea, and, of course, Walk the Line, will be released, entitled Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story. It stars John C. Reilly as a fictional singer named Dewey Cox, who, in his extraordinary lifetime, sleeps with 411 women, marries three times, has twenty-two kids and fourteen stepkids, stars in his own 70s TV show, collects friends ranging from Elvis to the Beatles to a chimp, and gets addicted to – and then kicks – every drug known to man. But despite it all, Cox grows into a national icon and eventually earns the love of a good woman – longtime backup singer Darlene, played by Jenna Fischer.

The cast is pretty extraordinary. There's Reilly and Fischer, of course. Then there's Kristin Wiig as Cox's first wife, Edith. Jonah Hill plays his brother, who dies in a tragic machete accident. David Krumholtz is a sleazy record executive. But, perhaps most importantly... Jack White will be playing Elvis Presley, and Paul Rudd, Jack Black, Jason Schwartzman, and Justin Long will be playing the Fab Four themselves.

Judd Apatow, who graced our screens with Knocked Up earlier this year and Superbad starting tomorrow, wrote the script with Jake Kasdan, who also directs. The trailer is now online at YouTube, and it's wonderful. Warning: There is some suggestive material.

The icing on the cake? Reilly will be touring as Cox this fall.
