OK, got a tape with a full clip of the classic SS song, "Women Can Be". However, since I have questions concerning the characters involved in the song, thought the best thing to do would be to post the lyrics and then ask my questions. So, here goes!
*Calliope organ music heard in the background.
*Spoken: Women characters: Are we all here? Good, I'm pleased to be.
*Song starts.
Women can fly way up high on trapeezes.
Women can be roller-skaters.
Women can help you find cures for diseases.
Women can hunt alligators.
Privates and poets and policewomen too.
There's so many things we women can do.
We can be clowns.
We can be cooks.
We can be bus drivers.
We can write books.
There's so many things we women can be.
*Old-sounding woman, spoken: Sing it like it is Teresa.
Teresa, sung: I used to be good with a needle and thread.
I'd sell dainty dresses of blue.
But one day I got an urgin',
To be a great surgeon.
And now I sew people up too.
*All, sung: One day she got a great urgin',
To be a great surgeon.
And now she sews people up too.
*Another woman, spoken: Margaret, tell them about the cat.
Margaret: I used to train my little cat.
So sweet, so quiet, such a thing.
But the tricks I was tryin',
Required a lion.
*Lion roars, All: A lion?!?
Margaret: And that's why I'm here in this ring.
*All, sung: The tricks she was tryin',
Required a lion.
And that's why she's here in this ring.
Third Woman: I used to bicycle all over the world.
My mother would say Come home soon.
*Others: Come home soon.
Third Woman: I traveled so fast off,
The earth I would blast-off.
And now I'm on my way to the moon.
*All: She traveled so fast off,
The earth she would blast-off.
*Countdown: 5, 4, 3, 2, 1.
*Rumbling take-off is heard.
All: And now she's on her way to the moon.
All: Women can ride up inside of a rocket.
Women can be office clerkers.
Women can sell and sew pins in a pocket.
Women can be soda jerkers.
Privates and poets and policewomen too.
There's so many things we women can do.
We can be clowns.
We can be cooks.
We can be bus drivers.
We can write books.
We can catch fish.
We can train dogs.
We can be doctors.
And we can chop logs.
Take a look around you and maybe you'll see.
There's so many things we women can be.
OK, will post this and then start up with the questions.
