Well, there was this Sesame Street Live show called Super Grover! Ready for Action.

Now check this out:

http://www.sesamestreetlive.com/storylines.asp

They changed the name to Elmo! Ready for Action! Sure he has a major part in it, but the show's mainly about :super: ! In fact, EVERY show has Elmo's name on it! Is the red monster that popular! Honestly, the guys at VEE are selling out.

Not to be disrespectful or anything, but the SSL shows aren't as good as they used to be in the 80's and 90's. It seems as if they're dumbing it down just like the tv show! The show has lost it's "magical" appeal in my opinion. Nothing seems the same.

Then(1997/98):

Now(2007):

This all may seem a bit crazy to you, but being real big fan of SSL shows, I just really miss the good ol' days of Sesame Street Live.

I guess what they say is true: you just can't sell a Sesame product anymore these days without incorporating Elmo into it one way or another; it's like there were talks about how a DVD HAS to have Elmo on the front, even if he has little to do with what the DVD is about (The Sesame Street Christmas Carol was about Oscar, and Elmo was only in a few flashbacks, yet the cover of the DVD had Oscar AND Elmo).

Yeah, welcome to SS post 1998. Those stupid little tickel toys kinda doomed us to Elmo oversaturization.

I honestly couldn't be less surprised if I knew about it months in advance. You could actually see this coming.

They always said they didn't want a host to hold the show hostage. Now that's exactly what's happened.

This just furthers my mom's suspicion that Kevin Clash is a bit on the egotistical side.

I honestly don't think the performers have much to do with it, they generally don't have that kind of say. The people in charge of the show saw that the character was popular, they listened to certain child experts (not all of which I agree with), and they ran with it. And now they're stuck with it.

This is just so overly out out of control.:stick_out_tongue: Their so big and in your face with it and it's like they have no shame. Man, I like that character an everything and I think Kevin's doing a great job with him, but the overkill is enough to make you just not want to anymore, you know? It's like he's gone from a character on the show to just simply a brand only used to sell merchandise and nothing else. LOL!:scary:

Well what's upsetting is that the way the character is, he can't possibly teach everything. It would make more sense to have a wider range of characters. The show was about diversity to begin with after all.

My problem with Elmo (well...where do I start? )
OK...the BIGGEST one is that Elmo never uses pronouns. Like if he's going to do something (like go to Hooper's store),he says"Elmo's going to go to Hooper's store!" This doesn't teach little kids to talk correctly!

Back in the 70s when I watched Sesame Street (I'm showing my age here,so please excuse me) the Muppets used correct language. (Well...a couple of times I heard Grover say "I, Grover." but that was few & far between)
stepping off my soapbox Before an argument erupts in this thread & winds up being closed I have nothing more to say on the subject
Thank you
