Hi there, I am a film student and have been researching the idea of Jim Henson as an auteur. Although I think the Muppets is one of the most amazing programmes ever made my research has led me to the idea that Henson perhaps sacrificed his artistic integrity, as shown in films such as The Dark Crystal, Time Piece and to a slightly lesser extent Labyrinth, with the commercialisation of the Muppets. I would love to know peoples views on this, whether you agree or whether the Muppets was a financial vehicle that enabled him to create his artistic films, or whatever you think.

Thank you very much and I'm looking forward to reading your replies

Hi, Muppet Central folks!

It may sound way too obvious, but I would like to announce it proud. I just signed up. It seems to be a wonderful place for fans and admirerers of Henson work. To be honest, I haven’t a real vision of all his works, but my favorites are surely The Muppet Show and Muppets Take Manhattan.

A tiny thing about me. I live in Russia (therefore, I would like to mention, my English is a bit awkward sometimes), what is quite disappointing for me Muppets-wise, because nobody even knows this term. Only Seasame Street is officially translated. The Muppet Show is also translated back in USSR times, but it’s so incomplete, and you’re unable to get it in DVD format. Besides, I live in Volgograd, which’s close to Moscow.

I’m not very related to Muppets and puppets (however since last month I enjoy making simple puppets, I would like to build real puppet some day). Of course, I would like to be puppeteer, but it’s not something I’m seeking of. Drawing is somehow closer, I think. Dogs are my second favorite hobby. I’m also attached to gaming.

I’m very glad to become part of this awesome community.

It is quite thrilling to have people from non English speaking parts of the world! It is quite beautiful and amazing to know Jim Henson's work has truly found its way to every corner of the world. It was definitely meant to be that you found the Muppets, and have been inspired by it. And your English, at least in typed form, is perfect to me!

What was the first thing that got you into the Muppets?

Hello everyone!

I've always been a big Muppet fan, but it's sharing the memories, toys and videos with my 4 year old that has reignited my passion! For any of you out there with kids, bring them in to what you love and share the joy! (and, if your kids are anything like mine, may I suggest a good strong glue for when the inevitable happens!)

Howdy!
I'm brand new here and I'm looking for puppet making tips. I like to build puppets.
I'm going to be commissioned to build some big-mouth puppets and working with foam and fleece will be a new material for me. (I usually make rigid puppets that I've sculpted and cast.)

I have always been a fan of the Muppets ever since I was a young one watching Sesame Street. I watched the Muppet Show every weekend with the family. My grandfather was a Swedish immigrent he and the rest of us got a kick out of the Swedish Chef.
I think it is a very special talent to be able to bring create a chracter and bring a muppet to life. I was given a Whatnot for Xmas 2 years ago which I named Butt Cleavage (I hope that is not too out of line) we can call him B.C. for short. I enjoy performing with "The Ace Reporter" for the kids.
Butt and myself reside in Richmond, Va.
