yeah , im afraid that sales clerks do not always know what they are talking about ,

POLAR FLEECE WILL NOT DYE WITH BASIC RIT DYE,

just go and look for a better peice of fabric

Fabric store employees are often kind of knowledgable, Wal-Mart employees usually not so much. The absolute best way to figure out if something can be dyed or not is to check what it's made from. There are exceptions, but generally natural fibre = will take dye, manmade material = won't take dye.

Yeah, it's one of the exceptions. There are others. I'm not entirely sure why. Maybe someone here more well-versed in textiles can enlighten us?
