For a few months now, I've belonged to this forum, and I've read several comments about how much people like this song.

But I don't know what people are talking about!

I know who Bip Bipadotta is (and his Muppet Show counterpart Mahna Mahna)

But I don't (think) I know the song. I know "Scratch my Back" and the one with Fat Cat Sat Hat.

Then I was reading the posts about the anniversary special and how it was at the end. Some people complained because their PBS station did a voiceover over it. I didn't recall seeing it at all. Sure enough, I checked my tape and my PBS station cut the whole thing out completely for an NPR news update! I saw a split second of the beginning, and that's it. I'm so bummed!

What are the lyrics? Is the song on any of the Muppet Show DVD's? Help!

I feel your pain! I HATE that! The first time WGBH here aired the special, they did NOT do a voiceover, which is unusual for them, because they ALWAYS do! But they just re-aired it, and it did have a voiceover. I HATE it when they do that! What exactly did your station do? Did they put the credits into a small square during the update??

Mahna Mahna is the opening number on the Juliet Prowse episode of The Muppet Show. Hope that helps.

Scratch my Back

I noticed the lyrics for Scratch my back:

:sing: Scratch My Back
sung by Jack, Jill and Mahna Mahna
(Jack is an orange monster, Jill is a light blue monster with horns who looks like the mother of Baby Natasha.)
Mahna Mahna: I know a couple, name of Jack and Jill.
They love each other and they always will.
'Cause when Jill gets an itch in the middle of her back,
All she does is turn to Jack.
And she says:
Jill: Scratch my back!
Oh, baby, won't you scratch my back?
Really nothing to it!
Love it when you do it!
Baby, won't you scratch my back?
Mahna Mahna: When Jack feels itchy, they just make a switch.
He turns to Jill and says:
Jack: I've got an itch!
Come on, Jilly, won't you be a peach
And scratch the itch that I can't reach?
And you can scratch my back!
Oh, honey, won't you scratch my back?
Really nothing to it!
Love it when you do it!
Honey, won't you scratch my back?
Mahna Mahna: They'll be so happy 'til the end of time,
Sayin':
Jill: I'll scratch your back if you'll scratch mine!
Jack: We're lovey-dovey as a couple can be,
'Cause I got you and you got me!
Jill: And you can scratch my back!
Jack: And, honey, you can scratch my back!
Jill: Really nothing to it!
Jack: Love it when you do it!
Jill: Baby, won't you scratch my back?
Jack: Honey, won't you scratch my back?
Jack and Jill: Love it when you scratch my back!
(During the song, Jack and Jill take turns scratching each other. But at the song's end, we see Mahna Mahna between them, scratching both backs at once!)

It went from the show to the thing where they show pbskids.org and Gordon saying "To learn more about sesame street, visit pbskids.org" and then I saw a fraction of a second of old muppets, and then an NPR news update with no credits anywhere! They just cut it out! The station I'm referring to is WDSE in Duluth(MN)/Superior (WI).

At least now I know what Muppet Show DVD the song is on.

MaNa MaNa

Hi everyone,
I've read that some of you didn't get to hear the MaNa MaNa song.
You can hear a brief clip on it by going to this link and clicking on song #17.

http://shopping.yahoo.com/p__music_1921996447?clink=
or cut and paste to your browser.

This was the best part of the whole special. I was so disappointed.
I really thought we were going to be brought back in time.
I enjoyed seeing the Baker #10 fall down the stairs, but really, going from showing Hoopers store to Maria's wedding....what happened to the decade + between??? Where was Kermit  and his Sesame Street breaking news flash, Barkley, Don Music "Mary had a bicycle" and all the other amazing things we saw as kids!
I was soooo looking forward to this special, and I was so disappointed. Let's hope their 40th anniversary special really shows life before Elmo!!!

Email me; I have it on MP3 at home.

BTW: the lyrics are
Mah Na Mah Na ba dee ba dee bee
(The second part of the lyrics is controversial as it has also been sung
Do doo do do doo)
