I was born in the late 60s but I really wish I had born around the doo-wop era.
My favorite 50's/60's group is Sha Na Na. They came around in '69 (they were in Woodstock) but sang 50's & 60's music. They even had a TV show on from 1976-1981.
Several of the old members are still there. But some have left,or unfortunately passed away
My favorite guy from Sha Na Na is Bowzer.(for those of you that know this already,I know you're gonna say"Shaddup about Bowzer already,Kathy!" But he's really a cool guy! He has his own oldies band now called "Bowzer & The Stingrays" I've seen him in concert twice & after the second concert he said he remembered me!:excited:
I quite like the Sha Na Na's, though I'm not familier with A LOT of their stuff. I do know, though, that they did a version of that teen tragedy song (orginally recorded by Mark Dinning) 'Teen Angel'. The original was recorded in the late 50's, 1959 I... THINK. They might've even performed it at Woodstock!
You have a cool taste in music, too.

Yeah, I have yet to see that film and I really want to see it!
Oh you must, it's a classic. It has Ron Howard in it (for those people who are not all that educated in pop culture, Ron played Ritchie in Happy Days, also about early-60s nostelgia), and it really captures the feel of the era- though I wouldn't know, because I wasn't born, I guess. You can also get the sountrack on CD, it's one of my faves (the 'Teen Angel' song I menchioned earlier is included, too). =)

Did somebody call for a girl born in the wrong decade?

It's true. I should've been born in the baby boomer genereation. Heck, even my MOM says that I was born in the wrong decade.

Anyway... One of my favorite singers is Elvis. I like some of the Beatles as well (we're doing a medly of their songs for a choir concert tomorrow). I also like Bill Halley and his Comets, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis... erm... a little of everyone, actually.

Oh, and a bit of trivia for you Sha Na Na fans: They were Johnny and the Casinos in the movie "Grease". Just so you'd know. (If you already knew it, then nevermind.)

I like music from every era, but my favorite is mostly pop/rock from 1955 to 1980 or so...

The Beatles

Elvis

Bob Dylan

The Doors

The Bonzo Dog Band

Gram Parsons

The Flying Burrito Brothers

The Byrds

Janis Joplin

Jefferson Airplane

The Clash

The Band

Buddy Holly

Eddie Cochran

The Rolling Stones

The Monkees

The Grateful Dead

Johnny Cash

Led Zeppelin

The Who

Jimi Hendrix

The Velvet Underground

Ramones

T. Rex

Aerosmith

Alice Cooper

Blondie

The Beach Boys

Three Dog Night

etc. etc. etc.
I've said this once (or prolly more) and I'll say it again... you have an AWESOME music taste, Tony!
I also like many of the one-hit wonders of this era, too. Stuff that can be found in compilations such as AM Gold and Have a Nice Decade.
I like one-hit wonders too. And there's tons of songs I love that nobody's really familiar with by bands that not too many people have heard of. Even though they're not all that well-know though I still think they're brilliant!
BTW, Kiki (puts nerd cap on), American Graffiti was George Lucas's second feature, following the futuristic THX-1138 In fact, the character of John Milner in Graffiti has a markerplate on his car, which reads THX-1138. But yeah, Graffiti is one of my favorite films, and it does have an awesome soundtrack. It was one of the first American films, actually, to be made up exclusively of popular, existing music. Martin Scorsese's Mean Streets (released the same year) also featured a soundtrack made up entirely of oldies (or what are now considered oldies), although that film was set in the present day.
Oh. Really? I thought it was set in 1962 or something. And it wasn't his first film? Perhapes I'm thinking of Steven Spielburg's film 'Duel', which I think was his first film. Or maybe I wasn't... well, thanks for correcting that anyway, I don't wanna put anyone on the wrong track! :embarrassed:

And yes, the sountrack is brill. I actually have the original records, about five or four different ones, which were my dad's. I listen to them still and they're in great nick!
(I also have a record called something along the lines of 'Fonzie's Greatest Hits' which is a compliation of tunes from the rock 'n' roll era!)

Really? Coolness!
And I'm the same, I think I'm born in the wrong decade and so does my friends and family. They think I might've been a hippie in the 60s and 70s in my last life- LOL!
I wish I was a baby boomer... but yeah, I can't do much about it now, eh? Oh well, hi-five!

Yeah..SNN performed at Woodstock. In fact,I think they got their start there. Not sure if they did Teen Angel at Woodstock though.I'll need to check.
Yeah, I'm not certain if they performed it at Woodstock, but they definatly did a cover of Teen Angel.

All I really listen to is 70s and 80s metal.

Kiss ,Alice Cooper, Black Sabbath/Ozzy Osbourne, Poison, Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Guns N Roses just to name a few.

PS...

BON JOVI IS THE BEST BAND EVER! \m/

and even though I deny it to my dad, I like the Ramones. He is a huge ramones fan and if he knew I liked them he would never let me live it down
