It's entirely 100% true. The Bunny was supposed to act sad when something sad happened. After a while they pulled the bunny entirely during major tragedies, this was mainly because some intern kid was in the costume one day when there was a story about a guy walking into a school and shooting a lot of kids dead. The intern (just having been told to react to the story) walked on screen holding a make believe machine gun shooting at the presenter. They decided it was a bit of a publicity risk after that.

i can't decide wether i'm horrified or find it hysterically funny...it's really an interesting feeling.

for the record, i too have spent a little time in a costume...not as much as Luke, but as i've stated before i used to work for Zany Brainy...and they have a lot of "in-store" appearances by characters. i was always the character (except when it was madeline...you have to provide your own legs for that one, and she's not THAT french) i honestly can't hardly remember who else i've been though...i know i was lyle the crocodile, and i think one of the berenstein bears...and the easter bunny...i don't remember who else...

I'm going to have to vote for hysterically funny. I mean, wow--when you accidentally tackle a politician's wife while dressed in a bunny suit, that's when you know you've lived.

I'm still waiting for that moment.

Luke! That had to be hands down the funniest, and best story youve said on here...possibility one of your top ten posts of all time. Now I must ask...was most of it true?(well, except the prime minister wife rugby thing) I could totally see this all happening as i read it too! hehe

>>>They were really gimmicky - they had midgets and girls in bikini's reading the weather ... they even turned into a porn channel late at night so i was never without a naked girl to ogle<<<

ahah! Like Wolverine's Xmen origins, the truth is revelaed why Luke has a penchant for such things!

capcrouton:>>>That story can't really be true. Why would they have a guy in a bunny costume when they're reporting about a bomb. That would be so tasteless. Luke you're pulling my leg.. er rabbit's foot<<<

you ever seen UK tabloid style news excerpts from like "Fox presents wacky clips from around the world"(well, you know those type of shows) I dont doubt they have all sorts of
strange british humour stuff like that, hehe

>>>for the record, i too have spent a little time in a costume...not as much as Luke, but as i've stated before i used to work for Zany Brainy...and they have a lot of "in-store" appearances by characters. <<

I always felt bad for youth who had to dress as chuck e cheese, or the happy star from carls jr...as there is always that one mean bully bratty kid who has to mess with him. and all the costumed mascot kid can do is pantamime^_^

Yeah sure, share my shame with the rest of the world. If there's enough call for it i may even 'bunny up' one more time for a rare personal appearance.

Actually all this costume stuff is wierdly phrophetic - the other day i was invited along to a roadshow in the UK Henson were doing with a magazine/store here for kids. Who came on stage right in the middle but none other than 'The Hoobs' - all lifesize costumed characters, not the puppets. I met them afterwards and they were a couple of girls making a buck from promotions work but boy, did i sympathise on how hot they were looking from being in the suits. Anyway we gave away loads of Hoobs videos and little hair accessories that made people look like they had Hoob hair.

Maybe i should have chased them round with a cold hose ? ;-)

It was ALL true - 100% INCLUDING the Prime Minister thing. Muppet promise !

Here's how that came about - i was at the British Book Awards at a posh hotel in London and the Prime Ministers wife was due to give an award. Our station wanted the bunny to meet her as a publicity stunt. Anyway she snuck out the back way early and we just caught a glimpse of it happening and so followed. By the time we got out she was half was down a road to her limo that was waiting and so i had to run for my life in full costume to catch her but the rabbit feet were kinda floppy so as i got to her i tripped over and to stop myself falling totally i grabbed onto her ......... butt. It was just like the nearest thing to me but she kinda fell over as well. Anyway even though a few photographers also caught these personal moments we were sharing she was in good spirits and shook my hand, and her bodyguards were ok about it too and to be pretty honest, embarrassed because they were slow and should never have let anybody get that close. So the Rabbit got the footage but in the end the CEO made a decision not to use it because the whole incident was an embarrassment.

He's tackled the UK prime minister's wife in a giant bunny suit...he's single handedly kept the flame of ALF alive, he's worked with the WWF, he's stood as a pillar to the Muppet online community...

the man, the vision, the penguin.

Luke Robbins, international man of misery!

>>>So the Rabbit got the footage but in the end the CEO made a decision not to use it because the whole incident was an embarrassment.<<<

Seems like that would be the point, to show it because it was out there and embarassing. Why else would they send a kid dressed as a rabbit to meet the prime minsiter's wife?

>>>did i sympathise on how hot they were looking from being in the suits. Anyway we gave away loads of Hoobs videos and little hair accessories that made people look like they had Hoob hair<<<

I think Im starting to see why The Hoobs isnt coming to American shores anytime soon^)^
