See now there is a thought... It would be funny to see Sam's reaction to the Fox New report. He would probably say they are not socialists, Just Weirdos. Of course Fox would probably have a field day with that as well.

Still waiting for someone with an actual, documentable FACT.

Can ANYONE here name an instance when Fox News spread misinformation or lied? I'm just asking. If you've GOT something, trot it out. According to several of you, Fox spends ALL it's time spreading misinformation, so I'm calmly and logically asking you to give an example. One. Just one. Just one little FACT--not an opinion--that has been shown to be wrong or inaccurate. It shouldn't be that hard to do since they are on the air, like, all the time and--according to some of you--spend ALL of that time spreading falsehoods. So NAME ONE. So far, the other networks haven't been able to name one either, although they have been looking for years.

Repeating what you've heard others say or just asserting "everyone knows this" is not a logical argument. This is sort of like "Because I think so" or "Because I want it to be so." A logical, rational argument requires you to actually use your brain and your reasoning ability to form a cogent argument. If you've got something to add, jump in and add it, or admit that all you've got on your side are emotionality and opinions. And EVERYBODY has those--that's why they can't be used in court or in a logical argument.

Here's MY fact: Steve and Eric chose to answer a charge of politicizing the muppets (which I would have said was baseless and stupid before this happened) by--of all things--making political comments and taking a political stand. This strikes me as not well thought out, as it lends credence to the very thing you are saying you do not do. I don't think Jim would have been so easily baited.

I'm not going to chime back in to this conversation unless there is something factual on the table to prove or disprove.

Clarification... are you talking about the 2 hours a day they actually have of news, or the rest of the broadcast day that focuses entirely on opinion? No one watches Fox News for news. They watch it because of the loud mouth talking heads who get paid a fortune to spread anger among a purely partisan base. Now let me say this once and only once... I do not like Fox commentators' far right fear mongering any more than I like the passive aggressive grumblings of Air America which I can only describe as the fat girls table saying nasty stuff about the popular girls behind their backs. They hold no influence and their speech only makes them feel better, that is.

It's isn't an issue of accuracy, at least with me, but rather an issue of tone. The only respect I have for Fox News is finally firing insane libertarian extremist Glen Beck after he put his foot in his mouth one too many times. Limbaugh (not associated with the network, to be clear) and O'Reily have their audience, and I can respect that... but Beck? That is truly a scary individual with a twisted sense of reality. But that's just a side note on the whole issue.

Above all, picking on children's and family media with the same text book fear mongering "The Liberals are coming to get you, Barbra" only emphasizes the point that they have a biased agenda, and will stoop to any low to prove it. The bigger man ignores these things. But you have Lou Dobbs on the even further than far right Fox Business carping on about "The Secret of Ariety" and how it was specifically made to tarnish the oh so good name of the 1 percent and how it plays in with the "commies" of the Occupy movement... even though it was a Japanese film based on a book written in 1952. That's class, that is. Sigh... why can't we have some more sane, restrained conservative commentators like Ben Stein. I'll sit and listen to what he says. Even agree at some points.

I cannot abide far left or far right agendas taking down kid's media. Never have. I hate parental groups that limit the advertisements on children's television, I despise those who find something dirty in innocent situations and have nothing better to do than right letters, and I hate extreme opinions, left or right, that turn a cartoon or movie into some imaginary insidious plot. Such insane banter I can get from bitter homeless drunks.

So, above all, where I'm sitting Fox's shoddy reputation isn't based on facts or lies, but rather agenda pushing, manipulation, and malicious tone. Still, the only thing more annoying than a Fox News detractor is someone who feels they have to defend it. It doesn't dog diggedy matter if the left doesn't like them if they're basically out to make a fortune. And that's all they need to do.

I think this effectively proves my point. The thought that accuracy in news in incidental to its "tone" (what does that mean, exactly? Politeness? Political correctness?) defies logic. So it's okay if the information is flawed as long as it's presented in the right "tone"? How about if the information is correct, but presented in a snarky manner? Does that make it less true? I'm still going to have to side with facts (still waiting for some to be lobbied my way) over opinion, or opinion about opinion.

And do you have any facts about Fox's "shoddy reputation"? They are, as a matter of fact, the most-watched news channel on television. Surely, then, you can give me an example of why their reputation is "shoddy" without resorting to quoting somebody's opinion. Are there journalistic standards flawed? Prove it.

You say,
I cannot abide far left or far right agendas taking down kid's media. and I hate extreme opinions, left or right, that turn a cartoon or movie into some imaginary insidious plot.
If you are as even-handed in your "lack of abidingness," why are all of your examples on one side of the spectrum? Give me an example of a far left agenda attacking kid's media?

i don't see why "most-watched" keeps being brought up. that has nothing to do with the quality of their reporting.

Not sure if this was said earlier, but you DO know that Fox News' lengthy attack of the Muppets didn't come immediately after the film's debut. It came a day after Kermit lit the White House Christmas tree with the first lady! Somebody tell me, with a straight face, that was a coincidence. :search:

Yes, Fox News lies daily. Now they've gone after the Lorax. Fox News has become that rude kid in the back of the class who keeps screaming inflammatory, nonsensical things in order to get attention instead of earning it through thoughtful discussion.

I used to defend Fox News when they were a lone counter-point voice in a largely liberal media atmosphere a decade ago, but that was when their agenda wasn't as purposely malignant. I don't watch cable anymore therefore I don't see Fox News that much, but they've been caught many, many, many times and they always sweep it under the carpet and pretend that nothing happened.

The reason why they can so easily do this is because the people who care don't watch the network and the people who watch agree with the Fox agenda so they don't mind the lies so much. This is the same reason why Newt Gingrich gets away with crusading against civil rights for "untraditional" families even though he philandered and divorced two wives wives once they were diagnosed with serious illnesses. If you care about the network's lies...here's one of the many fact checking links.

I was surprised that Miss Piggy took the bait, but Fox deserves the spanking.

Not only was it reported in this thread, but it has its very own thread here Some far left nut claims the movie is racist. I had some choice words there, believe me.

Also, I want to point out this Cracked article. Specifically the Donald Duck and Thomas the Tank Engine points. They are both criticized by far leftist agendas... claiming Scrooge comics are promoting capitalism with NO biting consequences, and Thomas the Tank Engine as sexist, fascist, conformist, and racist. Both I find are bollocks, and I refuse to agree with those, even though there are some very convincing bits about Thomas.

Secondly... Fox News, like every other news organization is corporate, agenda based news. ALL of them, even MSNBC are guilty of deceptive reporting, half truths, and sweeping everything under the rug. NBC refused to report or mention the fact that GE's head honcho not ONLY didn't pay taxes, but got Government Welfare... all major networks did their best to hide reporting of the SOPA/PIPA bills (until the wikipedia blackout, and only THAT was reported)... even John Stewart was watched by network owner Viacom, and did a soft soap piece on it with very little biting satire.
SNL put it best

Thirdly... why SHOULDN'T people be angry that such a "news" source has such a deceitful role in politics? Look at their support of the Tea Party movement! They hijacked an admittedly honest movement of anti-George W Bush/Ron Paul favoring 9/11 truth seeking libertarians that hated the Iraq war just as much as the left did that didn't get ANY representation and turned it into the cheap "Obama is teh Commie!" movement of anger and insanity that it is today. And said movement went on to elect the very bile filled anti-co-opperationists that lead us to a government standstill neither side actually wants.

And then there was the massive donation of money to the Republican Governor's Fund. I forget how many million, but it was an unprecedented amount. None of the media conglomerates reported that... sure, they let fly the fact Target gave to some anti-Gay guy because he was pro- lazze faire business... that got out... but Fox hid it's slimy tentacles in the 2010 political race. Some objectivity!

That said, here's what you want to hear... Keith Oberman is a left wing sanctimonious doof and Bill Mahr is a passive aggressive schmuck (who's BFF is far right scarecrow woman Ann Coulter... NO KIDDING!) and his idiotic documentary about atheism just widened the fakey fake culture war that Fox News started.

Okay--this is it for me. I'm officially bowing out of this conversation because it's changing the way that I feel about MC and the folks on it. I come here to "muppet" and I can't enjoy myself if I can't respect my fellow muppet fans. I'm going to leave comedy to the bears and do my politics in the real world.

I'm not sure if you really wanted your question answered, but as I stated before - the one big lie Fox News continues to spread is that the Muppets are trying to indoctrinate children to become anti-corporation socialists. They have done this countless times before with Sesame Street too. That should be enough to anger any fan. God bless Miss Piggy for speaking up! I'm proud of her. Nobody messes with the pig! LOL! And again, their 10 minute segment against "The Muppets" movie only ran once Kermit made a Christmas appearance with the Democratic First Lady. It doesn't take Lew Zeland to smell something fishy there.

I just can't back any network that bad-mouths the Muppets for the sake of political convenience or ratings.
