Internet Doomsday...what?

I hate people like that, who can't leave a good thing alone. Like the kids who would leave beer cans in the toilet in the dorm communal bathroom. Just because you don't give a darn doesn't mean you should ruin it for everyone else. LAME.

Don't give a darn is one thing. To go out of your way to make things miserable for others... why that's...

That's a [IMG] level of low.

Heard about this a few months ago, but my PC is squeaky clean and I could care less. If the Internet goes down, I got plenty of things I can do away from the PC to occupy my time. "No time is wasted time."-Cantus

But I've seen badly infected PCs before when I use to clean them as a side job(but I got out of it). Usually the PCs were always from those who either: a) don't have a clue about updating/patching installed programs, firewalls, and/or virus protection or b) someones kid/teen who thinks freebie pirated games, videos, and music sites are so much fun.

Do I really need to say it? Yet another reason why Macs are better...there are almost NO Mac viruses, and they aren't affected by crap like this, ever.

Not being smug. Just still wondering how an inefficient and easily broken system somehow became the near-monopoly in the first place. Counterintuitive much?

You are really starting to annoy me with your macs are better attitude. You just HAVE to bring it up every time someone mentions a pc. I get it.

As I said, not trying to be smug! I just don't get at all WHY anyone buys pcs anymore. It boggles me. Confused, not snarky, okay? Chill.

    Almost... :p

There ARE Mac viruses and such out there, so they're not entirely the superior computing machine out there.

I tell you what boggles my mind...how my computer is considered a "gaming computer"

I have a dell studio 15. When I told my friend's boyfriend the specs, he asked me if I had an alienware computer...and just from searching I noticed an awful lot of people getting one for gaming.

The community college I go to ordered some Alienware stuff for a gaming class (learn how to make games), they are really nice.

Macs have some viruses too and there would be many more if they took up more than 10% of the personal computer market. There is no great achievement by Apple by way of some super-secret anti-virus device. Fewer are created for them. The popularity of the ipad could easily inspire more Apple-based viruses. We'll see.

Is it possible to have an iPad virus since the apps are all sandboxed?
  12. Tom Fraggle Active Member

If a hacker is persistent enough, they could possibly make a virus for the iPad. But for the moment, I think your safe.

I'm worried about my other computer, it's taking a long time..... what do I do? Should I be worried about that?
  16. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

No, I think the site might be down right now.

The one with the .lu extension that is in english is working
  17. D'Snowth Well-Known Member

Well, this Internet Doomsday has finally become newsworthy, they're going to be talking about it on the local news later today.
  18. Sgt Floyd Well-Known Member

Nice to know they care so much that they are alerting the general public so late XD

Really, I dont think much will come out of this...I should really check my grandmother's computer. Who knows what kind of viruses are being harbored on that thing :o

Why are they telling us three days before?
Sarge, thanks for letting us know about it. I would have completely missed this otherwise....
  20. Tom Fraggle Active Member

Hmmm... Why they telling three days before? Maybe they like to cause panic and fear, so it leads people to do irrational things when hurried into something to protect themselves without much thought. Just think, bogus freebie websites that probably popped up lately claiming to clean your system of this virus, when in fact, it infects it. Called Scareware.

I got nothing to worry about, knew about this months ago, when it first was talked about on the Internet(back when people thought you were crazy to mention something like this that they thought would supposedly never happen). No panic or fear here, just cool, calm, collect and let happen what happen, I'm prepared.

I refuse to become so dependent on technology that I can't live life without it.
