I just read a post about possible 40 anniversary music-release ideas . How about a boxed set titled "Sesame Street 40 Years Of Musicial Memories It could be four disc set "Each disc could have 30 songs from each decade and it could also have skits in between the songs Disc one could focus on the first decade of the show The discs could have "Themes " Disc one could foucus on the songs from the old SS vinyl records "If posible they should be the ones that haven't been heard since then ( E.G. a song from Fair is Fair ).

Disc two could Focus on "Rarities - that means a version of a song or a song omly heard on SS proper and never was released on any audio media (E.g Disco Toothbursh " or " the Perfect Thing )

Disc Three could be a "tribute Disc " and feature songs and verbal memories of people who have passed on and I think the whole "I Miss You Mr. Hooper "scene would be a fitting touch for this disc and it could have Big Bird's rendition of "Bein Green " on it and it could have the Carpenters version of "Sing " on it.

Disc Four should have "celeberity songs "that have never been on CD: Examples of this include Perry Como and Julie Andrews singing " Picture a World " and Smokey Robinson's "it Takes Time ".

I think this would make an excllent hoiday gift for both Sesame generations and it would introduce some of lesser-known songs to a whole new generaton of listeners.
That's a great idea! Though the "30 songs per disc" idea might be pushing it. Here's how I might do it.

Disc 1
Sesame Street Theme
Hello (B-side from Sesame Street Theme 45)
Rubber Duckie
Bein' Green
C is for Cookie
I Love Trash
ABC-DEF-GHI
I've Got Two
Going for a Ride
This Frog
Fuzzy and Blue (and Orange)
Proud of Me
Nobody
Me Lost Me Cookie
The People in Your Neighborhood (rare 45 version, with extra verses concerning a garbage man and a grocer)
Bats in the Belfry
Let's Sing a Song That Everybody Knows
Four
I Just Adore Four
Dollhouse
Elmo's Song
I'm Square
My Pollywog Ways
Telephone Rock

Disc 2
Consider Yourself
If I Knew You Were Coming, I'd Have Baked a Cake (with Ernie)
Chickety Chick
Queen of Six
Eleven Cheer
The Subway (series version)
I Love My Elbows
Me (Anything Muppets version)
The Best Friends Blues
Write it Down (vaudville version)
If I Was a Cloud in the Sky
Disco Tooth Brush
Imagination (original Bert and Ernie duet)
They Can't Take That Away From Me
Wheels on my Feet (I am surprised that this classic Big Bird song hasn't been released on any commercial audio)
The Trash Can
Stretch, Wiggle, Yay!
Because We're Friends
I Love Words
Things That I Remember
Adding, Adding, Adding
You Tickle Me
...and maybe some songs from the specials, like I Hate Christmas, In China, Don't Eat the Pictures, and Brothers and Sisters.

Disc 3
Bein' Green (Big Bird version)
Sing (The Carpenters version)
When I Was as Little as You Are (with Mr. Hooper)
Bein' Green (Oscar's parody)
Bein' Green (with Ray Charles)
Sing (from 20 and Still Counting)
Sing (from Stars and Streets Forever)
It Can Be Easy Being Green
What's the Name of That Song? (with Forgetful Jones, to pay tribute to Richard Hunt)
How to Get to Yellowstone Park
Proud to be a Cow
You and You and Me (Jeff Moss' last song)
Don't Throw That Trash on the Ground (Henson's last song as Ernie)
I Wonder About the World Above Up There (Henson's last Sesame song as Kermit)
Air! (one of Henson's last performances as Guy Smiley)

Disc 4
Bein' Green with Lena Horn
Look Through the Window with Placedo Domingo
Grow Song with Helen Reddy
One Thing Leads to Another with Judy Collins
Nasty Dan with Johnny Cash
I Got a Song with Ray Charles
How I Miss my X with Patti Labelle
U Really Get a Hold of Me with Smokey Robinson
1,2,3,4 with Feist
Don't Know Y with Norah Jones
Shoe Fairy Song with Neil Patrick Harris
The People in Your Neighborhood with Ben Stiller
Believe in Yourself with Diana Ross

I know that that's not 30 on all discs, and that there is some repetition. I also couldn't think of any good David songs for the tributes disc.

I'd really like to have word that they would actually release one of those, instead of re-releasing old CD's once a year.... And I hope if they do, they dump the celebrity covers and Elmo-palooza songs and give us some remastered classic stuff... like one of Roosevelt Franklin's many songs...
