I don't see what's wrong with chasing back to watching the older DVDs over and over again. How many of us here haven't rewatched the older Muppet DVDs after seeing the recent movie?
I refer to, of course, being scared out of watching newer projects. There's nothing wrong with the older stuff at all. But the difference between nostalgia and a franchise is a recurring presence.

I'm saying "Cheapest" wouldn't grab them back like The Muppets did. it would alienate them. And we do NOT need that. it's not time to play with house money yet.

No offense, but the next movie needs to be out of the theater. GMC was so different from TMM and that's what the next one needs to do; not be set in some continuity and just be its own thing. And the evil celebrity has been done already (Glenda Jackson, Heather Locklear) and it worked for a half-hour show; probably not for a full movie.
Agreed fully.

The last movie needed the theater for the plot of the comeback and the nostalgic backing. It is THE only theatrical film that even used the theater, and the second over all after VMX. Why all the Muppet movies worked was that they weren't grounded to the theater, allowing them to run off and become other things. GMC was a great movie because they were able to hit a reset button and have the characters play themselves as themselves in other roles. That's the thread from GMC I hope they continue

  • The creation and inclusion of new Muppet characters doesn't mean they're going to take the spots of our favorites. New cast members create new dynamics for old characters to play off. It keeps things fresh and interesting.
Jamie's right, without the creation of "New" Muppets in movies we would not have Polly Lobster, Clueless Morgan, Miss Poggy or Walter.

Although there is something to be said about using the conceit that the Muppets are playing themselves/or other characters in a movie to use existing characters in new roles, like Dr Phil Van Neuter and Bobo in MFS... and imagine if Scooter was one of the ghosts in MCC as originally planned.

It better not just be a copy of GMC. Arrgh, I'm getting really nervous for this movie. Another comedy caper? What's it gonna be called? The Great Muppet Sequal?

It's not. That's what most of this thread has been dismissing. We know next to nothing about it at the moment. You're making sharp judgements based on practically no info. Look at what Sarge wrote:

ca·per
verb (used without object)
1.to leap or skip about in a sprightly manner; prance; frisk; gambol.
noun
2.a playful leap or skip.
3.a prank or trick; harebrained escapade.
4.a frivolous, carefree episode or activity.
5.Slang . a criminal or illegal act, as a burglary or robbery.
Using the term "caper" to describe the plot doesn't ensure it will be the same as GMC. That movie's my favorite Muppet movie and I'm not afraid of it being a retread. I'm waiting for some concrete info and ya' know, actually SEEING the movie before making a judgement on it. And that's a long ways away.

Me, too. Although I do admit I'm a little worried that it will be rushed but I have faith it's going to be terrific. And who knows? Maybe it's going to be one of the best. So, let's just wait and see.

1. I am not sure
2. Bunsen Honey and beaker!
3. I would like to see them do more with The Moopets, I am not sure what I would like to see at this time, but I did enjoy them and think they would make grate villains
4. I am not sure
Yes The Electric Mayhem needs a solo song! As for music, Rock, Jazz, Funk, and what ever else they can have fun with. I know I am probably in the minority, but Tex Richman’s rap is a guilty plusher of mine, so I wouldn’t mind hearing a little clean rap in the next movie.
Some songs that I would like to hear in the movie are
Play That Funky Music - Wild Cherry
Miami -Will Smith

(1) What would you like to see as the plot in the new Muppet "comedy caper" type film?

What if someone's kidnapping family entertainers but forgot about the Muppets, since they weren't famous enough. So the muppets are recruited to help solve the mystery. Would be great for cameos, by famous entertainers, other puppets, Sesame Street characters, even other Disney and non-Disney properties... ala Roger Rabbit. Call the lawyers!

(2) What characters would you like to see have the leading roles?

Kermit, Fozzie, Gonzo, Piggy, Scooter, Pepe, Rowlf, Rizzo, Bunsen, Beaker, and the Electric Mayhem.

(3) Do you want a Muppet villain (like in Muppets From Space, Letters to Santa and The Muppets) and if so who, or would you prefer the villain to be just a human role for one or more characters?

No, while I think it's a fun idea to have a comical Muppet sidekick, the fact that we've seen this in MTI, VMMXM, MFS, and again most recently in The Muppets is enough. In GMC the bad guys were the just the bad guys ("pure an simple") we don't need comic relief. How about a female villain? VMMXM was the only production to have one.

(4) Whether they were in The Muppets or not, what five minor characters do you hope have a bigger role in the new movie?

I would have to agree I'll see your Johnny and Sal, Robin, and Clifford and add Bean Bunny.

(5) What style of music would you like for the new film? Are there any characters that you hope have a song in the new movie?

The Electric Mayhem absolutely needs a solo song in this film. In fact it would be great to one day see a movie centered around them one day ala a "Spinal Tap" type spoof .. hint hint.. As for music type, there really shouldn't be one style. The Muppets work best when multiple styles are used together.. a hip/hop, soul, funk number would be nice since we haven't seen that in awhile, but I think we can exclude "rap" for this next movie.

(1) What would you like to see as the plot in the new Muppet "caper" type film?
I've actually been thinking how cool it would be to have a neighborhood watch kind of story, and it's reminding me a bit of "The Burbs", but different. Kermit, Fozzie, and most of the main crew live together in a big house, but every day they get their gear on and patrol. New monsterish neighbors move in (a bunch of Frackles, Boppity leading the way alongside a dastardly human villian(?)) (or maybe a travelling circus/carnival/freak show?), and strange things start to happen around the neighborhood. Things get way out of control, and our band of heroes decide to call in some specialists. Muppets on Patrol or something, lol, I dunno.

(2) What characters would you like to see have the leading roles?
The main crew; Kermit, Piggy, Fozzie, Rowlf, Gonzo & Camilla, & Scooter... plus Dr. Teeth & Co., and of course Walter has to be in there somewhere. Plenty of Chef, Rizzo, Bunsen & Beaker, Robin, Sweetums, Pepe, etc. too, naturally.

(3) Do you want a Muppet villain (like in Muppets From Space, Letters to Santa and The Muppets) and if so who, or would you prefer the villain to be just a human role for one or more characters?
I mentioned the Frackles above, but they'd really kinda be just poster-Muppets to the human villian or two, or... maybe not even them. I see someone like Catherine Tate or George Clooney playing the "bad guy", or other actors along those lines; completely comedic normally, or totally out of left field, with a couple either comedic or serious acting henchmen to round them out.

(4) Whether they were in The Muppets or not, what five minor characters do you hope have a bigger role in the new movie?
I'd LOVE to see Clueless Morgan and Mad Monty hanging around the skate park or something, ha ha. Rizzo would benefit from a larger role, as well as Pops and Bean Bunny! Sam, Link & Strangepork, Harry, and Lew for 5 more, hee-hee!

(5) What style of music would you like for the new film? Are there any characters that you hope have a song in the new movie?
Muppet Style!!! Do they get classified as carnival music? Maybe just zany, ha ha. Definitely a purely Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem number!! But yeah, all Muppets.
