I may be wrong, but I actually think Bert began collecting bottle caps & progressed to paper clips.

A bit of SS trivia: What was bert's prize bottle cap, & from what size bottle?

Answer: The bottle cap from a twelve ounce bottle of "Figgy Fizz".

I guess once Bert found that cap, he felt his collection was complete!
