Well you know, nobody is forcing parents to act all crazy over a toy. They should teach their kids that toys aren't everything and sometime you have to wait for what you want. It's things like that that make people think Christmas is a crock, when it's not.

But sadly, even parents nowadays seemingly want instant gratification.

Agreed. I say we ignore the commercialism here on MC and treat the holiday as it's meant to be treated...as a show of respect for a certain Babe (for those who believe) and as the holiday in which we should strive more than ever to have goodwill & peace on Earth.

Well we've been warned about this for ages. Miracle on 34th Street (1947) was concerned about commercialism.

Indeed. That's why I say that we should do what my previous comment suggests.

All I can say is I just can't wait for the Muppet Christmas special. I'm looking forward to it even MORE than Christmas itself. Which is a sad statement from a muppet fan, but they (Disney) finally decided to do something right.

And lately, Christmas specials have stunk. Lousy, lousy plot retreads of far superior specials from the olden days. Elmo's Christmas Countdown screamed "Rush Job," and while I did like it at first, I don't think I wanna see it again. And the Charles Bltizen puppet laid it on too thick that Ben Stiller ruined Christmas....

Not to mention the Charlie Blitzen puppet was recycled from Lightning the Reindeer from "Elmo Saves Christmas".

I do hope the new Christmas special is good. But if not, thankfully there are alternatives.

Yeah, but I wanna see something new. I've seen the old stuff many times. I just hope they can make something new AND good. Rudolph and the others are great... but I haven't seen anything good since Olive: the Other Reindeer. But no one does specials anymore, Christmas or otherwise.

That's where I'm different from others, I'm more about keeping the past in the public eye and not hidden. Not that there's anything wrong with wanting new things.

Agreed. You can have the past and the new things together, you know. Heck, they air Olive the Other Reindeer on the network that airs all the Christmas specials, ABC Family. And incidentally, with Disney owning that station practically through its ABC stock, I hope that the old specials continue to air!
