Let's hope not. I'm looking forward to them.
If everyone knows this then ignore this post. My dad was looking for some of those Time-Life releases of The Muppet Show for my birthday. He called every store in town looking for them and they have been discontinued! What's weird is that the stores aren't even selling the extras they have. The store sent them back to well where ever. In my logic this has to mean Box Sets are coming soon. Like I said if this is already widely known and I'm just slow ignore me .
That's because when TimeLife had a licence with Henson, when Henson sold the Muppets to Disney, Disney chose not to renew the rights and the deal was up. Timelife had to stop producing and selling all the Muppets DVDs - although some stores continued to "sell out" the left over stock of TMS dvds from TimeLife, many sold them back to TimeLife (who "recalled" them when the lincense ran up). This probally has nothing to do with the prospect of season sets - just the fact that Disney didn't want Timelife making profit off their property - it took place a long time before the conception of season sets hit Disney's mind; even before Disney fully established The Muppet Holding Co.
Oops I forgot what the guy at Best Buy said. Which is by no means an authorative source. They're expecting a replacement "soon". Whatever that means. Just a curious thing I thought I would share. But I'll be quiet now. I obviously don't know what I'm talking about .
They may mean they're expecting a replacement the same way we all are. Sometimes the people at Best Buy (and other places) say things based on speculation, sales patterns/history, rumors, or hopes. But I hope that Disney will clear up all this wondering and come out and tell us about something soon.
Hear, Hear! Oops there I go talking again. LoL .
Actually, I think it would have been a better idea if Timelife kept making them. I mean I am anxious for the season by season box sets, but I'm still wondering what to do with the one's I have once the DVDs come out. After all, there is one tape with three season 2 eps. I wouldn't need that one once season 2 comes out. I really don't want to get rid of the ones I have, because it was only about a year or two since I got them and they're in very good condition. That's why I feel, it might have been better if Timelife would have just kept making more episodes and completed the set that way. Just my opinion.
I was working for Suncoast when Disney bought the Power Rangers and we ended up sending back every copy of the Power Rangers we had and about 2-3 months later, we had the Disney packaged version sent us as they re-released them.
It is probably the same here. There was probably a sell off period and now all copies are pulled to help create the demand, by making them scarace and then they will make the release of the set.
The fact that a DVD is pulled from the shelves has nothing to do with the fact that another version of the product is coming. It has to do with contracts, legal agreements, terms of usage/sales, ect. The fact that the TimeLife DVDs were pulled is not in anyway related to the fact that Disney is going to release the same content in another form.
When one company (like TimeLife) looses the rights to a property (like The Muppet Sho) and a new company gets them (like Disney) the reason the products may get called back is because of the terms of the original agreement with the first company (in this case TimeLife). It's not because it's the "all mighty disney"; if TimeLife's contract expired, the DVD would have been called back even if Henson still owned the Muppets. Even if Disney has no plans to ever release the Muppet Show on DVD ever, the DVDs would have still been called back. It is a legal thing, not a marketing thing.
Although usally when a product get's called back like this there is a re-release later on; the two are not connected.
Finally got a reply back from Disney (been trying to get something from them in months). Their answer is still the same old. "A release date has not been decided on yet." So no luck here guys. Anyone else find anything??
Notice Disney did not say no. These should happen.
I e-mailed back and forth with Disney customer service trying to get a straight answer. Here is what happened:

I know that at this time there are no current releases by Disney of The Muppet Show on DVD, but rumors are saying that Disney is working on them and planning to release them. Are there any plans to release the Muppet Show on DVD in seasons sets? And if so can you share some details? Thank you.

there a title for the Muppet Show in the works and coming sometime in the
future? Do you have any information on the future life of the show on DVD?

Please call Walt Disney Home Entertainment's toll-free number: 800
723-4763 (in Canada: 888 877-2843) for assistance in your inquire. Our customer service area only has access to certin information. The title you request has not been formally or officially announced so we have no information on it.
Well, after a few e-mails back and forth they said "we don't know". Ugh! The responce with "no release date for this title" had me going, thinking there was a title just with no date attached, but it turns out that is their way of saying "all items in our computers have set dates, and we don't have an item like that in our computer". But they did direct me to someone who may be able to answer the question (hopefully if I can talk to a real person on the phone I can get a straight answer). I'll call tomorrow (hopefully), I also ask anyone else who can to call too (it's toll free) and see if we can get a straight yes they are really coming (and maybe even a when). And also voice your desires for the Muppet Show DVDs to come (and also to get an official announcment with details out (to stop our hopeless guessing games here),
That's the same response I've been getting. Between me and you they gotta come up with something GelflingWaldo
That e-mail back and forth was really funny. That somehow needs to be in print somewhere on the set when it's released!
Well thanks for trying anyway. that shows your really pasionit about it. What is Disny doing. I think they are more confuesed then we are ha ha
I would agree with that.
Disney (being such a large, well known, and watched company) is very careful not to say anything until it is official. So I doubt that we will get any type of confermation out of them until there is an official press release or announcement to back it up. And those types of things don't come out until the release and product details are pretty set in stone and finilized. Being that in November people were being interviewed for bonus features probally means that the disk and disk features are still being worked on and created. Unlike HIT who was willing to answer questions about Fraggles to the best of the ability, Disney is more likely to say nothing one way or another until they have all the facts ready.
Yes. But we all would still like to know something. Arrggghhhh! This waiting thing is killing me.
SO, has anyone called the toll-free number?
I did once upon a time. Frankly got soooooo frustrated with people who had no more of an idea than I did...So I haven' t called back since.
