I noticed that that cover called it "Old School Vol. One" instead of "Nostalgia Set: First Five", like how Amazon has listed it. I'm not sure if that was an old cover that wasn't changed, or what.

Does it really say 1969-1974? I thought it said 1969-1979.

This would make a great layout for the set:

    Disc 1:
Season 1 premier (with commentary by Caroll Spinney, Joan Ganz Coony, Loretta Long, and Bob McGraph)
    Season 2 premier
    bonus features:
    The Best of Season 1
    The Best of Season 2
    Sesame Street Promotional Film

    Disc 2:
Season 3 premier (with commentary by Caroll Spinney, Sonia Manzano, and Jerry Nelson)
    Season 4 premier
    bonus features:
    The Best of Season 3
    The Best of Season 4
    Test Pilot #1

    Disc 3:
    Season 5 premier
    The Best of Season 5
    Sesame Street Unpaved

the "best of" season compilations would be an average of 12-22 minutes each.

And here are what skits I'd include for the best of season compilations. I hope I am right about the years of certain sketches, but these are my best guess. I also hope that I don't accidently list anything that was cut from the Noggin broadcasts of the premier episodes (I am going by how Muppet Wiki lists the skit orders).

    Ernie and Bert's sandbox game
    Kermit's rectangle lecture
    monsters whisper C
    One of These Things
    first and last

Right now, the only thing that I am worried about is why SW isn't giving us any detail about what is on the disc set, like what episodes, bonus features, etc. I just hope that we will find out soon enough. Does anyone know how or where we can get this info?
  6. minor muppetz Well-Known Member

Does anybody know if Don Music was around during any of the first five season (my guess would be the fifth season, if he was around during these years)? It would be great to see Don included.
  7. minor muppetz Well-Known Member

Another thing that I wonder is if this set will have a "preview other Sesame Street DVDs feature". And once this is released, I wonder if other Sesame Street DVDs will include a clip from this set in the "Preview" section.
  8. Barry Lee Active Member

Well I think the cover looks great, but i'm still iffy about this... maybe they wanna keep this a surprise of the content. :smirk:

I'm glad they've finally released some more info, and I'm loving the cover art. Lots of good dvds coming out soon, but this one will be the top of my list. I actually really like the name "Old School" for the dvd set--it keeps it from feeling dated or too precious in the way that "Nostalgia" might. There's just enough edge there.
  11. ssetta Active Member

Well, I now see that it's going to be 3 DVDs, but 300 minutes long. I'm afraid something tells me that it will be a compilation of clips, and not entire episodes. I mean, it gives a little more information, but not that much.
  12. minor muppetz Well-Known Member

If each episode is close to 60 minutes, then 60 times five is 300, so the set could include five hour-long episodes. I don't know if the running timke counts features (if there are any). That could get us one episode each from the first five seasons.
  13. Taco Monster Member

I think there will be full episodes. If they were only going to release a compilation of clips, then it would probably only be one disc.

But I do find it strange that they're being so secretive about this set, and yet they've released all the details about the new Electric Company set that comes out about a month later.
  14. jeffkjoe New Member

Well, it's two different companies handling each set:

Shout Factory is doing Electric Company and Sony/Wonder is doing Sesame.
  15. Barry Lee Active Member

And plus SW doesn't really release much info on any of there dvd's until the last minute.
  16. Phillip Administrator

Here's some additional info on the Sesame Street Old School box set...

So it sounds like we're getting around five hours of complete episodes with two hours of segments and clips and/or bonus material.

Thanks for the information Phil. This, along with both seasons of FR and The Electric Company are definites on my B-Day/X-Mas list this year.

I don't see those words anywhere in the Amazon description.

UPDATE: I did find that passage on Movies Unlimited. Mystery solved.
  19. TashAndMe Member

Good, so that question has been answered. However, Amazon says the set is 300 minutes long. Looks like we may have another mystery to solve.
  20. Taco Monster Member

I'm guessing that Amazon only counted the combined running times of the actual episodes.
