Man, everybody seems to be getting it before me, and all these cuts are definately lowering my interests in this release. I've never seen some of the 1rst season episodes and to hear that certain skits are being cut especially from a couple that i've never seen before (Jim Nabors, Charles Aznavour) disenhartens me somewhat.

This is starting to not sound like oversight. Either there were problems with the masters, like deterioration, or the cuts are deliberate.

Now I know I'm not buying this.

And now I'm worried about "Fraggle Rock", but fortunately there are no music rights issues, not to mention that FR is in Henson's hands, and not Disney's.

No way...All of me is cut? i have waited YEARS to see that!!!

Looks liek we will have to keep trading pirate copies after all...man this sucks...

Still, i'm happier than with nothing...or am I...

Of course you are! Isn't this an improvement from what we did have? I mean like you said, "Better than nothing". Now that we have a little, stretch for a lot.

The cuts wouldn't bother me nearly as much if Disney hadn't used the phrase "completely restored" and simply said that there were rights issues. Now all I expect from them is to fix the problem, regardless of the cost.

You are right...i am not going to cancel my order, but...

I have been looking forward to seeing how that lovely crazy song "All of me" which I have on Mp3 plays out. Now I'll have to live wondering...or get a copy from someone else. I was thinking this DVD set would solve the trading problem...

Sorry to post twice, but this from Gelfling Waldo:

Will any skits or segments be cut due to issues with character or music rights? This has not been 100% confirmed yet, but I’ve been told that Disney has worked on all the legal stuff to keep the episodes in tact. Although some episodes/skits feature characters that are owned by other companies or feature music owned by other companies, Disney wants to release the show uncut and hopes to do so. We’ll have to wait until the press release (or maybe even until the actually release) to know for sure if the episodes are uncut, but I’ve been told not to worry about this.

Well, now we are worried about it, :)

    irony

It's ironic that All Of me and You've got a Friend are bot cut, since those two were included on the video Gonzo Presents Muppet Weird Stuff, so Jim henson (or whoever was in charge of the video) must have gotten the music rights for the video release of that. I am not sure if those rights were different because they were part of a compilation video and not a video release of the series (although as pointed out You've Got A friend was included in the time-life release of the vincent price episode, but those videos and DVDs only had three episodes per disc and weren't season sets). I am not sure whether any of the other edited sketches was included on any of the compilation videos, but maybe we should petition to get them re-released so that we can have DVD copies of those skits ;)

The only one of the edited skits that I haven't seen are Danceros, although I was looking really forward to hearing some John Lovelady voices (many of the first season episodes that i have seen don't have any characters voiced by John Lovelady), and Gone With The Wind.

I sure hope that Boogie In The Barnyard, A Horse Named Bill, Whenever I Call You Friend, Tippy Tippy Tim, Somewhere over the rainbow, Danny Boy, Sweet Gingerbread Man, Octopuses Garden, and When The Saints Go Marching In don't get edited when the seasons with those songs get released.

We have to email Scarecroe; maybe he has videos of Vincent Price's "You've Got a Friend" and "All of Me" for download.

What about the other edited skits?
  11. Sean Gaffney New Member

In terms of the edits, I'd say the Joel Grey ep is the least affected - I hadn't even known something was missing till I read the guide on MC. Williams is missing a great Muppet skit, but that's it. Aznavour is missing one of his numbers, a bigger loss.

The shows most hurt by this are the other two. Vincent Price's ep loses the entire flow of the plot by getting rid of the closing number. And Jim Nabors gets shredded, not only losing his first song but also a large chunk with Scooter and the Danceros. This is the episode that really gets hammered.

That said, also watched the Ruth Buzzi ep, which is great (Ruth clearly adores the Muppets), and Rita Moreno, which is one of my first Muppet memories, and was as fantastic as ever.

It's a good thing they didn't edit out Rita's opening number and replace it with the final number.

    Right. Along with these:

    Jim Nabors:

    Song: Gone With The Wind
    Danceros

    Joel Grey:

    Muppet News
    Wayne & Wanda

    Charles Aznavour:

    Song: The Old-Fashioned Way

All we want is these segments cut from the following TMS episodes for video download:

Joel Grey: Wayne & Wanda, Muppet News
Jim Nabors: Gone With The Wind, Danceros
    Paul Williams: All of Me
    Charles Aznavour: The Old-Fashioned Way
Vincent Price: You've Got a Friend

Eventually Vincent's closing number is included in Vol. 5 of Time Life Best of DVD.

I have an uncut version of Vincent Price's episode, but I wouldn't know how to share it with you guys.

This kind of blows, though... but I ordered my set a month ago, so of course I'm still getting mine.

Is this just online, or does this apply to retail stores too?
  20. Gorgon Heap Active Member

I canceled my order. I have Season One uncut already from years of taping and trading (sorry if I sound like I'm rubbing it in, I'm not trying to), so it's really not necessary for me. At a later date, I might get it (after renting it or checking it out of the library), but right now I am definitely not chomping at the bit to get one.
