This candid photo I just snapped do anything for ya?
I admit that Gonzo looks good from far away but close ups kill it for me. Nice group shot though, would look cooler when Fozzie is in it.
They look fantastic Jamie! Ugh, the wait is killing me!
I admit that up (very) close the nose fabric is unfortunate mainly for two reasons: the seams and the regularity of the semi-transparent fabric's "foam look" pattern. Everything else is a micro-issue to me. Being on the team that produced the post series two Gonzo figures I bow to this one as the difinitive Gonzo. The figure's beak and eye focus are better (and that's important) but not nearly by as much as originally thought. Darn monkey photographers.
Here's one more unretouched hi-resolution close-up of Gonzo and his famous nose.
This is exactly how it looks extremely close. No better, no worse. One foot back, he looks better. Three feet back, almost perfect. That's an honest opinion.
I agree, photographed from the side angle, a few feet back he looks brilliant and the material is so much less noticeable. I love that group photo, and i think you got one with good pupil positioning.
Seriously dude, i think they need to get you taking their product pictures. You may have just sold me on a Gonzo i think.
very VERY awsome jamie dude! still cant wait to get my MR Gonzo in! my MR Kermie and Animal need a new Muppet friend to chill with.
btw... jamie where did you find that spiked collar for your mR Animal? I've been lookin for one! was it from online or a store? If so what is the website address man?
I like the pictures so far, but I'm not sure I'm going to get him just yet. (Going to see how much I get for my tax refund first).
So they stuck with the "pantyhose nose", eh? I thought in one photo they had an obvious seam going along the underside of his nose. Did they fix this?
Also, are all Gonzos' eye placement going to be like this or is there a chance of getting one with good eye focus?
If they are, Jamie, how do you fix the pupils if they turn out like this? Just peel them off and re-glue em? I'd like to know if I order this guy.
Go to this link: http://www.spirithalloween.com/Accessories_Glasses-Jewelry/Large-Spike-Necklace
for a spiked collar. You will need to paint the back bits silver and allow a couple days for it to dry, but that's it.
The fabric isn't quite as pantyhose looking as I believed it to be but it's definitely there. The material's mesh attempts to mimic the foam texture. The seams are visible up close but appear to fade quite a bit as you move away from it. It is unfortunate but not nearly as bad as I had figured.
The eye focus is off. Think Muppet Show season one Gonzo eye focus. His eyes look a little sad and wandering. I can see some folk not feeling the need to change them as, due to the shape of his design, they only look that way in the direct front view.
Caper directed me to some felt material I have sent away for. It's coming this week and I will update you on that. Peeling the pupils will likely rip them apart.
In all, Gonzo (out of the box) is worth getting. I am picky as h*** about the dude and he is not perfect, but all that changed upon opening his box. I was so darn giddy! That's the honest truth. I think Travis knew it and was waiting to see what we'd say. Even with the nose (and a lower technical score from me) Gonzo is my favorite of the three.
Brutal! I love how the inside of the mouth is some kind of open cel foam. Why couldn't they of done the whole face with that stuff? So basically the inside of the mouth will go bad one day? But the pantyhose will last a lot longer? Ha Ha. It looks like an expensive doll. Not a replica.
I kinda brought that point up a while back, its the same with Animal. I know that with Gonzo they specifically couldn't do the nose in foam because it could be just yanked off, but assuming the materials are what we think, they are using a minor amount of degradeable materials. There may be some toothless Animal replicas about in time.
Not that i'm that worried about it, i know i will show mine the proper care and attention. I might even let him chase a few women or something!
I must admit that your photoshop eye placement change and fur trim made me think twice about not getting a Gonzo. I really don't get why MR doesn't crack down on eye position with these things. I'd rather they get rid of the white plastic lid things and have the eyes in the right spot than have moveable eyes. I can't wait for fozzie though as there should be NO issue with eye placement on him...or else...
Jamie, where did you get the stands for your replicas? Are they custom made or did you buy them somewhere? Great photos by the way!
Each replica comes with it's own stand.
I love to look at my Muppets. It feels like I have part of the gang in my room. Cannot wait to get Fozzie this fall.
This is what I see everytime I look at them!
oh man.. hubby has to get back to work NOW so i can get these last two.... *sigh*
Just posted my Gonzo review at Master Replicas if anyone is interested:
I've got a question for those that have received their Gonzo already:
Putting aside the difficulties, risk and skill required to do such a change, if you could re-cover his nose in a thin fleece type fabric in place of the netting, do you think it would be worth doing the modification?
I'm not asking whether or not you would actually risk the alteration to your own replica, its more I'm trying to gauge how bad the netting does or doesn't look when compared against some kind of fleece material instead.
Obviously fleece is not reticulated foam either, but I'm still wondering if it could be a less 'jarring' substitute than the netting...... if you get where I'm coming from?
Before Gonzo shipped the sock seemed like an abomination that 'had to go' at any cost, but in-person people's perceptions seemed to have mellowed.
Covering it in fleece would probably Not be a good idea. It would throw off the proportions, because fleece is thicker than netting & it would look fuzzy & pill..............idk....but it seems it would turn out with a negative look all around.
I also like the netting nose, it is able to provide shades for the beak & adds a texture that personally I like.
