Mega Camilla doesn't look so mega
Well another GOnzo arrived in Oz last week and I have to say he looks fantastic. A few minor tweaks required but overall he is excellent. His nose is nothing like the proto pics made him out to be - I really have no nose issues to be honest.
I did trim a little around his eyes last night and will definitely be repositioning his pupils. That's my only major niggle with this Muppet replica. His jacket seems a little big but by pulling it back and a little fiddling it seems to fit better.
And I love the pink lip look. Don't know if I'm game to apply paints but I'm wondering what type it is.
Also, does anyone in Australia know where I can get black flocked paper to make new eyes for Gonzo. I've been trying to find some on the net but can't seem to source any. Any help would be appreciated!
I had a quick look around but couldn't immediately see an online store in Australia that has self-adhesive black flocked paper, but it is often used to line the inside of telescopes - try contacting a few of the people listed on this site and see if they can point you in the right direction:
(and while I'm not IN Australia, I am Australian...so I felt it appropriate to reply!)
Thanks Bear Man - I'm on holidays from tomorrow so will try looking then.
Firstly thanks for the advice on ordering Gonzo. I went with Plasma Infusion and he arrived a couple of weeks ago and you are right, he was well worth it.
With regards to eye pupils. When I have made puppets in the past I have used some round felt circles I found at the art and craft store called Riot (I think there is one at the QV centre in Melbourne). These felt circles are intended for putting under wooden boxes, speakers etc to stop them scratching your furniture. They are the perfect diameter for pupils and, although they are a couple of millimeters thick, they are non reflective and are perfect circles. You get about 8 or 10 in a pack for only a few dollars and they are self adhesive which makes them really easy to reposition until you get the focus where you want it.
Thanks Ozshane - I went with them too and got him a week or two ago. I'm in Richmond so it's not far to QV and I'm on holidays for a couple of weeks so will try Riot. Ta muchly!
Drats......thought she'd be a little bigger....oh well
Does anyone know what size shoes Master Replicas put on Gonzo?
Hey Earl, howzit?
I sized up my Gonzo shoes, and they look to be either an infants size 6 or 6 & 1/2, or a toddlers small 7.
I've gotten two more pairs of shoes for Gonzie from Payless Shoes, they tend to have the inbetween sizes.
Thanks for the quick reply, Anthony!
Hope everything's going well for you!
I just received my Gonzo and, well...
OH MY GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOSH!
This has got to be the COOLEST thing I own! It's just so... REAL! Gonzo is IN my room!
Here's a few pictures so you can get a taste...
Definitely the best picture I've taken.
A boy and his Whatever.
I'm not responsible for whatever I type this afternoon...
Congratulations on the new Gonzo! He really is fun. I keep primping him remaking his pupils to get him just right, but he's the first one that made me smile right out of the box! The Kermit looked corpse like and the Animal looked fluffily crazed, but Gonzo seemed much more natural upon arrival. I love his little suit!
Great drawings by the way!
Thanks Jamie! I need to fix my Gonzo's pupils at some point too... but other than that he's absolutely PERFECT.
And glad you like the drawings. I still need to send that one off to Dave... as soon as I can find a good address to do so.
Did you do anything to your Gonzo's pupils yet, Ryan? For some reason, they look a lot better to me than some of the other pictures of Gonzo "right out of the box".
I just re-read this thread. I think I convinced myself to buy one when I have the money to.
<--- I want these guys, at least!
No, I haven't touched the pupils yet... and I think I agree with you that they do look a little better--but they're still kind of annoying me since they're off-focus.
And yes, I can't reccommend the weirdo highly enough. He's just... Wow. He has such a pressence in my room, it's rather incredible.
Let's see here... possibly a thousand dollars to get the characters I want... but one of them won't be out till next year...
Yeah, I think I'm gonna have to get them.
I would be extremely nevous about fixing Gonzo's pupils, though. I'd have to make sure the new pupils were perfectly cut before I went near taking the originals off.
Yeah, that's my biggest fear with even considering altering his eyes. I'm so nervous that I'll mess it up somehow and I just wasted $250... that would NOT be a good thing. I think, if I do alter him, I'll make two sets of pupils, just in case.
But still, there's no arguing that he looks SO much better with alterations done...
Oh, without a doubt. I especially like the somewhat larger pupils used on the one in the Muppet Central review. They look slightly bigger than the ones he came with, and bigger than some of the other altered Gonzos.
Actually, with Gonzo's eyes the way they are right out of the box, he kinda looks like the real photo puppet here.
Everytime I walk past Kermit and Gonzo, I get a smile across my face.
I've been lucky enough with both my posers that, while the eye-focus is marginly off, they both look good enough not to change it. Maybe I'm just not a perfectionist? But I am able to make semi-professional looking photos of them which I am perfectly happy with for now withoutn changing them. I'd have such a huge fear of ruining good money if I touched them at all.
