Sesame Street turns 30 with a year-long celebration of merchandise and television appearances. The new Muppet movie goes into production in North Carolina. Over the course of the year, three different directors are announced for the movie. Jerry Juhl shockingly resigns as head writer over creative differences months before the movie is filmed.
