Actually there is a very good reason to vote for them. If a candidate gets a certain % of the vote then the next election that party is eligible for federal campaign financing. I believe the % is 12%. So, yes, they might not win this election but it is necessary for the next election. And then the next. And then the next. You have to start with a grassroots effort and build momentum. It's not going to happen overnight but through several elections. Like Jamie said, politics is a long game. You need to start electing legitimate 3rd party candidates to the lower offices and build from there. A 3rd party Labor Party like in the link I provided would be very legitimate and not some sort of fringe group. But, that's not going to happen, so there's no reason to vote for them. There are also other reasons not to vote for them. A lot of them would not know how to govern if they were actually elected.
There is a reason they're 3rd parties to begin with. Their ideas are usually too radical to belong to either of the two major parties that really care about winning. Besides, I'm not going to base my vote on some election 12 to 20 years from now. I'm going to base my vote on the candidate who I want to win in the present day (and can actually do it).Actually there is a very good reason to vote for them. Somebody on local radio explained it during the last election and IMHO it's very true. The Republican Party has become the party of those that don't need the government for anything. And the Democratic Party has become the party of those that need the government for everything. Both sides have forgotten those in-between, aka the middle classThat is true, the Republicans have allowed the extremists to take over to an obviously alarming degree. And the Democrats have done the same. Neither party seems to tolerate even the idea of moderates anymore.
I agree that most 3rd parties don't have a chance and are too radical to be elected. But a 3rd party like in the link I provided several pages back would have a very good chance of winning and would be very legitimate. Take the time to read it and let me know what you think. I'd appreciate it.There is a reason they're 3rd parties to begin with. Their ideas are usually too radical to belong to either of the two major parties that really care about winning. So I guess that, like me, Jesus's teachings go right over your head. There is a reason they're 3rd parties to begin with. So, if 3rd parties have candidates that are too radical for either of them, you KNOW they have to be bad.Somebody on local radio explained it during the last election and IMHO it's very true. Yes if that is the case. But if there is a 3rd party between the two you might have something. So, if 3rd parties have candidates that are too radical for either of them, you KNOW they have to be bad.
Even if it was an exemplary 3rd party, their unelectability and likelihood of throwing the election to the major party that I don't want in power is a dealbreaker for me.Yes if that is the case. But if there is a 3rd party between the two you might have something.
America, at its best, is a blending of both democratic socialism and capitalism.Somebody on local radio explained it during the last election and IMHO it's very true.
