well spoken the MUPPETS WILL INHERIT THE EARTH
Disney can't just sit and watch the Muppet's fiftieth just flutter by...there's too much money to be had in it. I'm betting at the very least we will see a few commemorative collector's items show up in the Disney Store and maybe a running tribute during preceding commercial breaks during WoO with ABC celebrities and quasi-celebrities remembering their favorite Muppet moments and congratulating Kermit & Co. on 50 wonderful years. It would be a nice gesture, anyways.
yeah...to let ANY anniversary flutter by is VERY un-Disney like.....
Ain't that the truth?
But this is not a Disney owned anniversary, it is a Jim Henson anniversary (not The Jim Henson Company, but Jim Henson the man).
This 50th landmark is as important to Disney as it is to The Jim Henson Company, and Sesame Workshop. It would be wrong for Disney (and the Muppets) to steal the thunder and importance from the other two companies; they would need to work together on something (and that is unlikely).
That is true. It is not the 50th anniversary of the Muppets that Disney owns. It's the 50th anniversary since Jim Henson first started with Sam and friends. Just like how the 30th wasn't just the Muppet show Muppets, it was ALL of Jim Henson's work. It's kind of sad that it's all separated. Kermit is kind of like the child in the middle of a divorce. He's a part of Sam and Friends, Sesame Street, and The Muppet Show family. Poor Kermit.
So, do all the different licenses start over when counting anniversaries? For example Sesame Street decided to go with the 35th anniversary instead of waiting for the 50th of the Muppets as a whole. Fraggle Rock seems to be getting a 20th anniversary push. So I assume the Muppets will get lumped into the Disney anniversary, the JHC will probably do nothing unless they release some kind of Sam and Friends DVD, and Sesame Street just did a big push so they will likely do nothing
But-if it was Disney/JHC doing the 50th anniversary special together, then they might have to get permission from Sesame Workshop to use the SS Muppets.
Oh I do hope they have a muppets 50th anniversary special like they just did on the 30th anniversary special.
They desreve one, even Disney should be able to see that.
Well, it's March now and I gotta question. Has anyone head any rumors of anyone even acknowledging the 50th Anniversary?? *sound of crickets* Anyone??
What's the actual date of the 50th aniversary?
Oh, and, Christy, the answer to your questian is: no. Except the Stamps later this year.
All of Disney marketing energying going toward Disneyland's 50th birthday for this year.
Oh and Bear in The Big Blue House is the little sister and now they have to live with evil uncle disney.
Come to think of it Henson really seems to be giving there shows away
And fraggle rock is the Fostor kid staying 6-12 mos @ a time with diffirent families
I think the muppets is 50 in september.
It would seem so, yes. Disneyland is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, and so Disney will focus on the Magic of Disneyland with Tinkerbell and Fireworks and Robots instead of the true humor and magic that can be found with Kermit and Gonzo.
Actually the Muppets turned 50 on Monday, May 9, 2005. Little celebration was done to celebrate the birth of Kermit and "Sam & Friends" (and thus the Muppets and Jim Henson's career in puppetry).
Disneyland has some commemorative pins for Kermit's 50th:
and NPR did a special report on the Muppet's birthday:
...that's about it.
I agree with you. He's so awesome. Plus he's the one of the few Muppets who is the most sane in the group. He'd be awesome for a boyfriend ya know.
AND I bet he could fix your computer when it breaks down.
